Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), originally established as Thailand’s first public institution dedicated to teacher education, is one of the country's prominent higher education institutions. Its Faculty of Social Sciences is committed to addressing societal needs and promoting sustainable development through an educational approach that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications.
The Faculty emphasizes interdisciplinary integration and aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of social structures, public policies, and global challenges. Its educational strengths include interdisciplinary approaches to social sciences, the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and an emphasis on social engagement and community participation.
During the academic exchange, Asst. Prof. Tannikarn Soonsinpai, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, expressed appreciation for National Taipei University of Technology's (NTUT) distinguished reputation in international academic research. She conveyed a strong interest in establishing an institutional partnership with NTUT through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with the aim of jointly promoting educational innovation and development in Thailand and Taiwan.
The Faculty of Social Sciences highlighted its interdisciplinary approach, integrating political science, economics, social development, and related fields to advance teaching and research with meaningful policy implications and practical social impact. This approach demonstrates the Faculty's active role in addressing regional social development challenges and fostering socially engaged scholarship.
Dean Thanakorn Thongprayoon of the International College for Sustainability Studies shared insights into the promotion of sustainability studies and international education. In addition, Vice Dean for International Affairs Jiraporn Ruampongpattana introduced SWU's strategies for international academic collaboration and student mobility, including dual-degree programs, international curricula, and initiatives designed to strengthen intercultural communication competencies.
Overall, the Faculty of Social Sciences has developed an educational model that integrates interdisciplinary collaboration, sustainability-oriented approaches, and internationalization strategies, fostering both social impact and global perspectives.
This academic exchange further strengthened mutual understanding and opened new opportunities for bilateral cooperation, particularly in academic research, faculty and student exchanges, interdisciplinary education, and potential institutional partnerships. The discussions also provided valuable insights into the future development of humanities and social sciences education and laid a foundation for continued academic collaboration between the two universities (see accompanying figures).
